Al Ain Zoo is the largest zoo in the UAE and the middle East. Al Ain Wildlife Park & Resort is in a thirty-minute drive from Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
The zoo was opened in 1968; and in 2006 it was renovated. Today its area totals 400 hectares. The working time of the zoo is from 9:00 to 19:00. There is a night zoo in summer.
Al Ain zoo gives tourists a unique opportunity to see rare animals in conditions close to their usual habitat. Appropriate cages are created for all fauna representatives. There are night residents, darkened rooms are made especially for them. A special room is organized for reptiles, where suitable temperature is maintained. High enclosures are made for birds, so they can fly.
The most comfortable conditions are created for visitors. Kids feel great here. The whole zoo is surrounded by vegetation, and there are tents above the paths for protection from the sun.
Al Ain zoo includes a large collection of animals, common in Africa, the Middle East, India and even Australia. Now there are 68 species of mammals, 88 species of birds and 35 species of reptiles. Here you can see the Arabian gemsboks, oryxes, rhinoceros, Bengal tiger, giraffe, gazelle, kangaroo, chimpanzee, cougar, panther, African lion, Nile crocodiles, snakes, flamingos and many others.
The year 2010 became unprecedented due to the number of captive- born oryxes. This is a rare view of Arab antelopes on the verge of extinction. And the last important event for the zoo Al Ain was the acquisition of two white tigers donated by Sheikh bin Saeed al Maktoum.
