Tegalalang Rice Terraces are one of the most memorable landscapes in Bali. The terraces of the villages of Campuhan and Paging are located in the same area, but they are not so popular with tourists, because they are far away from the city.
The unique landscape is created by the classical island irrigation system spread in the VIII century. And in the course of the year, the landscape is constantly updated in accordance with agricultural cycles. There are paths, which are paved along the rice terraces. You can stroll along them, watching the growing of the main food of the Balinese.
Tegalalang village is fast developing within the framework of tourism. Souvenir shops, where local craftsmen sell handcrafted items, line along the road to the famous terraces.
You can get to Tegallalang Rice Terraces from Ubud. The stunning landscape is just 5 km from the town. In addition, you can also get there with the organized excursions on the way to other island attractions: this place is a part of most routes from guides throughout Bali. It is better to choose a sunny morning for walks on the slopes of the gorge, while rice beds filled with water reflect the blue sky; and it is not very hot. There are restaurants, where you can taste original dishes of rice and other tasty food, on the upper tier of the rice terraces.
