Dubai Museum Tourist Attraction

Dubai Museum

Dubai Museum is located in the picturesque Al Fahidi Fort, which was built in the 1799 to defend the city from the sea. The Museum exposition tells about the history of the Emirate and the country as a whole. At different times, the Fort housed the Palace, barracks, a prison; only in 1970, the Fort was renovated and converted into a Museum. In 1995, one more restoration was completed. It added underground halls. Colorful dioramas, life-size figures, sound and light effects let you imagine the life of Dubai's pre-oil era. Galleries of the Museum recreate the former look of the Bay, traditional Arab houses, mosques, souks, date groves, episodes from the life of the inhabitants of the desert and the sea. The most striking exhibits are paintings of the underwater world, at the background of which pearl divers are depicted. The exposition of the Museum includes old scales and sieves used by sellers of pearls. There are products of artisans, including wonderful objects made of copper, alabaster and clay, whose age ranges from 3 to 4 thousand years found during excavations in Al-Guzice. There is a military Museum in the main building of the Fort. The underground part of the Museum exhibits elements of history of Dubai using the latest technologies. Thus, the reconstructed areas of the old times with authentic sights and sounds are shown. Right before your very eyes, areas of the city are transformed from a village into a huge metropolis of today.
