Florida has a number of tourist attractions and has something to offer for any kind of traveler. Of the various things to do, you can check out the launch site of the United States called The John F. Kennedy Space Center (KSC).
The center once served as a base for all NASA human space flights and still runs rocket launch facilities for the civilian space program of the US government. KSC is situated on Merritt Island in Florida. Sprawling over 219 square miles, the center is 34 miles long and approximately 6 miles wide. Today, this facility happens to be one of the most popular tourist spots of the USA, attracting thousands of visitors from around USA and the rest of the world.
Today, KSC is one of the main holiday destinations in central Florida and is nearly one hour drive away from the Orlando area. You can go to Visitor Complex for a guided tour to the center and Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. You will have to follow the travel guide who will take you to the tour. A larger part of this facility has restricted access and only 9% of the land is open to visitors. The tour also includes a visit to a wildlife sanctuary.
Most of KSC‘s facilities are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Its support facilities are situated in the KSC industrial area, which is 8 km (5 miles) south of LC-39. This area is dotted with the Operations and Checkout Building, the Headquarters Building, and the Central Instrumentation Facility. The center also includes a major radio communications and spacecraft tracking complex called the Merritt Island Spaceflight Tracking and Data Network station (MILA). Today, this center runs its individual short-line railroad.
