Big Ben is known as a symbol of London, which makes it a must see in your list while visiting this city. Today Big Ben is usually associated with the clock tower located at the north end of the Palace of Westminster in London. However, the official name of the tower is Elizabeth Tower, while Big Ben is a nickname for the largest bell located inside the clock. The name “Elizabeth Tower” was changed from previous “Clock Tower” in tribute to the Queen in September, 2012 in her Diamond Jubilee Year. Big Ben is the largest four-faced chiming clock in the world and is over 150 years old. The tower is 96 meters high and it will take you 334 steps to get to the belfry (no lift!). Interesting fact: Elizabeth Tower used to have a prison for the Members of Parliament who misbehaved.
