Amber Mountain National Park is located 30 kilometers from the city of Diego Suarez. It is the oldest national Park of Madagascar, which was opened in 1958. The Park itself with an area of 185 square kilometers is located at 1,500 meters above sea level.
The Park is the main source of water and precipitation for the entire Northern part of Madagascar, since it falls out in 10 times more than in the surrounding savanna.
The favorable climate and abundance of precipitation has a positive impact on the local fauna. The Park is home for a wide variety of animal species: 25 species of mammals, 75 species of birds, 60 species of reptiles and 40 species of beautiful butterflies.
The main attraction of the Park is its several waterfalls. They are not only beautiful, but also serve as a place of sacred worship for the locals. There is a belief that waterfalls can communicate with their ancestors. This place of worship is one of the largest waterfalls in the Park, which is called Sacred Waterfall. The best time to visit the Park is between September to November.
