Monterey Bay Aquarium

Established in 1984, the Monterey Bay Aquarium (MBA) is located where a previous sardine cannery on Cannery Rowused to be along the shores of Pacific Ocean in Monterey, California. This aquarium is touted among the prime tourist attractions of the city as it witnesses a footfall of 1.8 million visitors every year. Every tourist comes to this place to enjoy thesights of thousands of animal and plant species. Of them, Ocean Sunfish is an interesting watch.

The aquarium receives fresh ocean water from the pipes which bring it from Monterey Bay. There is a 1,200,000-US-gallon tank in the aquarium. This tank is considered to be the largest tank in the Open Sea galleries boasting one of the biggest single-paned windows of the world. As far as the architectural designs are concerned, the original building of the aquarium was done by Esherick Homsey Dodge & Davis, an architectural firm. After the construction work was completed, the building was thrown open to public on 20th October 1984. The main aim behind the construction of this aquarium is to conserve oceans.

Today, Monterey Bay Aquarium has become a must visit sightseeing spot for all the travelers who wish to enjoy the beauty of marine life.
