The Club Hipco de Santiago represents the oldest racecourse of Chile. It is the place, where the South America`s well-known stakes race takes place. It is one of the three main tracks of the country.
There is a broad turf course of about 2400 m. Its landscape is decorated with gardens, fountains and ponds.
The Club was set up in 1869. Initially all the grand stands of the Club were built from wood and glass. However, they were completely destroyed by the fire in 1892. The building of the Club that we can see now was designed by the Chilean architect Josue Smith Solar. The Longchamp from France was taken as model. The Club became available for visitors in 1923.
The Club Hipco de Santiago is also involved in the concerts` activity. It is a huge venue, which can hold about 30 000 spectators for a concert. For example, the Vive Latino festival was held there on the 15th of April 2007. There were three stages, where artists performed. World famous bands and artists, who performed their concerts there include Iron Maiden, Jonas Brothers, Depeche Mode, Metallica, Linkin Park and others. Each performance attracted about 40 000 spectators.
As for horse races, they are organized on Fridays, Mondays and occasionally on Sundays.
