Yellowstone National Park was declared as a national park under law by President Ulysses S. Grant on March 1, 1872. Though mainly situated in the USA Wyoming state, the park also covers some part of Montana and Idaho. Founded by the U.S. Congress, this park is counted among the top tourist attractions of the country. Widely recognized to be the first national park across the globe, Yellowstone is much talked about for its rich diversity of wildlife and geothermal features. Of the various geothermal features of this park, the Old Faithful Geyser occupies a prominent place.
The Yellowstone National Park is extended over 3,468.4 square miles (8,983 km2) and is dotted with attractive lakes, rivers, canyons and mountain ranges. The park has different species of birds, fish, mammals and reptiles. Wolves, grizzly bears, and herds of bison and elk can be easily seen here. Most of the species which inhabit this park are considered to be rare or threatened. For a tourist, this park offers excellent recreational opportunities. These consist of camping, hiking, fishing, boating and sightseeing. During winters, visitors take guided tours to reach this park. They use either snowmobile or snow coaches to arrive here.
