Kulturhuset, which can be roughly translated as the "House of Culture" is a cultural center of Stockholm. The building is a symbol of the modernist reconstruction of the city of the 1960-ies. It is located in the Central square of Norrmalm - Sergels Torg. It is a big building right outside the metro station "T-Centralen". The building was erected in the style of postmodernism. The Swedish Parliament held its meetings there for a while.
At the present day, Kulturhuset regularly hosts various concerts, exhibitions, movie performances, recitals, master classes, lectures and seminars. The Stockholm city theatre and library are also hosted inside this cultural center.
The building is still the object of disputes of Stockholmers. Some believe that it contributed to the architecture of Stockholm, brought a new spirit, others call it a thorn on the face of the city.
Kulturhuset has also a touristic center, where you can book a hotel, a tour or just learn how to get to any of the sights of Stockholm. Here you can also buy tickets to concerts and performances, and Stockholm Card. Using this card, you will have unlimited access to public transport, free admission to the main sights of Stockholm and get discounts.
