Sydney Jewish Museum Tourist Attraction

Sydney Jewish Museum

Sydney Jewish Museum is the museum created in 1992 by the Jews, including those ones who survived the Holocaust (members of the Australian Association of Jewish Holocaust Survivors with the help of the late John Saunders AO). The Museum is located in the heart of Durlinghurst. The Museum consists of four floors. Its expositions are located on three of them, there are toilets, library and classes on the ground floor. The first floor is devoted to the history of the Jews with an emphasis on Australian Jewry. Here you can learn about Judaism and all Jewish traditions. There is also a room, where you can learn about the Jews who served in the army of Australia. There is a commemorative plaque. The second floor is entirely devoted to the Holocaust. The exhibition is organized in chronological order, from 1933, when Hitler came to power, until 1945, when the Second World actually ended and the Jews were not threatened. There are many photos, which plunge into shock. There is also a memorial dedicated to the dead children. The Museum exposition is very hard for perception; it tells about the cruelty of people towards others. It is impossible to believe that people can be so deliberately cruel towards other people. Why does one need to go to such museums, if they are so hard for perception? Such museums are a way to learn different points of view on the same event and to understand the nature of cruelty, its causes and symptoms and be able to control it.
